A poll conducted of Tory party members by Conservative Home saw more than half of them say that Boris Johnson should resign now as Prime Minister. This is yet another blow for Mr Johnson when it comes to his approval within the party faithful, after senior Tories at the Sutton Coldfield Conservative Association, a “true blue” stronghold, unanimously gave a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister. The verdict came before the emergence of further revelations about Downing Street Parties on the eve of Prince Philip‘s funeral.
Meanwhile, another anonymous Tory MP told the Telegraph that Conservative activists in his constituency had conducted polling among themselves, revealing that 65 percent of them thought Mr Johnson should resign.
The Conservative Home poll, conducted on January 15, asked 1,041 Conservative party members whether or not the PM should resign.
53.4 percent of respondents said he should resign, while 42.8 percent thought he should not.
3.75 percent said they did not know.
The same panel of Tory party members gave Mr Johnson a 93 point approval rating in the first poll after the general election.
But this is not the first humiliation faced by Mr Johnson in the polls in recent days.
A poll conducted by Savanta ComRes on January 11, which interviewed 1,040 UK adults, showed that two-thirds (66 percent) of them think that the PM should resign – an increase of 12 percent since their last poll at Christmas.
Their polling showed 42 pecent of 2019 Tory voters agree that Mr Johnson should resign.
He has also faced calls to resign from four Tory MPs and Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross.
Calls for Mr Johnson to quit have been growing alongside increasing reports of parties held at Downing Street during lockdown.
The latest revelation in the ongoing saga was that an event called “wine-time Fridays” was scheduled into the electronic calendars of around 50 Downing Street staff between 4pm and 7pm every week during lockdown, the Mirror revealed yesterday.
Earlier this week, the Telegraph reported that two separate leaving drinks were held in No10 on April 16 last year, the night before the Queen was forced to sit alone at Prince Philip’s funeral as a result of strict Covid rules.

The week before, it was revealed that Downing Street staff were invited by the Prime Minister’s principal private secretary to a BYOB drinks party in the Number 10 garden – during the height of lockdown in May 2020.
However, Senior cabinet ministers including Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and Chancellor Rishi Sunak have all defended the Prime Minister.
Mr Raab said: “I’m fully supportive of this Prime Minister and I’m sure he will continue for many years to come.”
While Mr Sunak tweeted: “The PM was right to apologise and I support his request for patience while Sue Gray carries out her enquiry.”
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss added: “I stand behind the Prime Minister 100% as he takes our country forward.”
