US Vice President Kamala Harris, 57, has been bashed for her address from the Capitol building to mark the anniversary of the shocking January riots last year. President Joe Biden, 79, spoke on Thursday and blamed former President Donald Trump for the insurgency following the announcement the former businessman and TV personality had lost in the 2020 Presidential election.
The 46th president said: “For the first time in our history, the president had not just lost an election, he tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob reached the Capitol.”
However, it was the Vice President’s comments which have come under fire after Ms Harris compared the Capitol riots, which saw four people die on the day and one police officer the following day, to tragedies such as terror attack 9/11, where almost 3,000 Americans died, and the bombing of Pearl Harbour, where over 2,400 Americans lost their lives.
She said: “Certain dates echo throughout history, including dates that instantly remind all who have lived through them where they were and what they were doing when our democracy came under assault dates that occupy not only a place on our calendars but a place in our collective memory: December 7, 1941, September 11, 2001, and January 6, 2021.
“We cannot let our future be decided by those bent on silencing our voices, overturning our votes, and peddling lies and misinformation, by some radical faction that may be newly resurgent but whose roots run old and deep.”

“1/6? The guy in the viking hat got a few years in jail.”
Another user brutally criticised the comments: “Kamala Harris compared the Capitol riot to Pearl Harbor and September 11.
“This is actual brain damage. And if you still support her, you’ve got brain damage too. Sheesh.”
One more user, Chris, compared Ms Harris’ statement to a famed film trilogy: “Comparing 12/7 and 9/11 to 1/6 is like comparing The Godfather I and II to Godfather III.”
A fourth user, Nancy, wrote to her two thousand followers: “She hasn’t done her homework as usual! She ended up on the wrong page.”
Another, Gary, agreed and wrote: “Infuriating and insulting! How could anyone be so clueless and insensitive?
“No rational thinking person could possibly equate 1/6/2021 to 12/7/1941 or 9/11/2001.”
However, some Twitter users disagreed, with one writing: “Anyone who denies the truth of what happened on January 6 ought to be ashamed of themselves.
“We know what happened. History is watching and history will judge them.”
