However, this has not gone down well with the Tory leadership.

Mr Wotton quoted a Tory insider who spoke to Steve Swinford, Political Editor of The Sunday Times.

They said: “It’s pretty sickening.

“They were only elected because of him most of them are F*g nobodies.

“It’s nuts”.

According to the Daily Telegraph nearly 40 no confidence letters have been sent to Sir Graham Brady, Chair of the 1922 Committee of backbench MPs.

However, according to other reports some Tories are withdrawing their letters.

Mr Wootton slammed the disloyalty of the “pork pies” mutineers, claiming that they had only been elected to Parliament because of the popularity of Mr Johnson at the last general election.

She said: “Yes they are there because of Boris’ popularity but that was sort of built on hot air and fluff and that’s been blown away in some ways.

“The things people didn’t use to mind about him because they thought he would be quite good to go to the pub with now as he has as many people might see it let us down they don’t owe Boris very much at all.

“If you look at the polls as things stand only three of those red wall constituencies would remain conservative.”

However, Mr Wootton offered a stinging riposte that opinion polls shouldn’t always be trusted.

He said: “If we believed the polls we would have had Hilary Clinton in the White House and we’d still be a member of the EU.”
