However, according to Royal author Robert Jobson writing in William’s Princess, published in 2006, the future King had another career in mind linked to his late mother Princess Diana.
He said: “His mother leaned heavily on her eldest son in her times of need – times when William was still just a little boy.
“He also had a natural knack of spotting what Princess Diana needed.
“Whenever Diana felt uncertain, William was there for her.
“He once told her he wanted to be a policeman so he could protect her.
“Her heart must have ached with love at his earnest words.”
Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton wrote about a conversation Diana had with William and Harry in his book about the late Princess of Wales.
He penned: “William and Harry were aware of their destiny.
