An investigation is underway as a human skeleton was found in the mountains of Rhodes nearly two years after a British expat went missing.

The grim discovery was made by a hunter in an inaccessible mountainous area of the Greek island, between Psinthos, Maritsa, and Kalythi.

Authorities and the Fire Brigade were called to the area on Saturday Proto Thema reported.

The remains were transferred to the morgue of the hospital of Rhodes for examination.

The Prosecutor’s Office has also been informed.

Cops are currently examining the possibility that the skeleton belongs to a 60-year-old British woman who lived in Kalithies as the height, hair color and clothes match her description.

However, further testing is required to establish the identity.

The 60-year-old Brit had vanished from the Greek island in December 2019.

The disappearance of Diane Davison has sparked a desperate search operation at the time with authorities issuing a silver alert after she hadn’t turned up to collect food from the Municipality of Rhodes.

Police carry away the body found in Greece.
The remains match Davison’s description, though police are still investigating.

And now her close friends who set up a Facebook group dedicated to finding the woman, believe that the remains found belong to their missing friend.

They have shared heartbreaking tributes, alongside pictures of Diane.

One of them wrote: “I’m sorry I failed you. You would never have failed me. I’m sorry I didn’t get there on time. My heart is broken.”
