Wigan major incident: Police helicopter swarms Leigh road after emergency triggered | UK | News

According to reports, police are currently on Westleigh Lane and Westbourne Avenue, in Leigh. Witnesses have reported seeing a police helicopter flying low over the area within the last hour.

Ambulance crews have been pictured at the scene.

It is believed emergency services rushed to the scene at around 6pm.

Manchester Evening News reported there is also a police presence at Tennyson Avenue with a cordon in place.

One of the police cars has left the scene but Shadwell Grove remains taped off.

A resident who lives on Westbourne Avenue said he “heard loads of sirens and saw tons of blue lights through my window” at around 6pm.

There are a number of police vehicles and an ambulance at the junction of Hawthorne Grove.

This street is also believed to be closed off.

This incident comes after a 15-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after being “stabbed multiple times” inside a school.

The youngster was attacked at Walney School in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, and police said he suffered “multiple stab wounds”.

He was dashed in an air ambulance to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in West Derby, Liverpool.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested near Barrow train station on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
